The student ministry at Northwood Church has taken on a new look. They were able to connect with an awesome volunteer who had experience in the interior decoration field. She was able to get the new look together for the PLEX (that’s what we call the student building). The colors of the room are pretty much blue, black, and grey/silver. It looks very sharp.
Daniel Langford, one of the student pastors came up with the new identity for the youth group. They are rallying around the concept of “U”. Unite is their wednesday night program. They also use U in various other methods and meanings like Uturn, EquipU, etc. Daniel played around with a lot of ideas on how to graphically represent the “U”. I was able to help Daniel settle on the final look for the “U” identity.
The iconistic look of the “U” gave us the freedom to do a lot with the identity. The PLEX stage uses two edge-blended projectors that gives them one large custom-looking canvas to project videos and lyrics on. Here’s the post about how we put it together and it’s opening weekend: Here. To fit that size screen, I created a Logo loop that plays over and over again as students come into the Worship Area:
It really adds a lot of energy as students enter the room. Daniel wanted to take the identity a little further and it really paid off. There is a common area that empties into the Worship Area of the PLEX, and Daniel wanted to strengthen the “U” identity in the common area. He got together with our graphic designer Josh and they created five posters to hang against the back wall. It looks really sharp in person, this picture doesn’t quite do it justice.
As much as I like to be in control, the best products always come about with team collaboration. Hats off to Daniel for pushing the idea through til the final product.
