The Big Story

I was given the privilege to work with Jim from Bay West Church in Florida. They were looking for series artwork and motion graphics for their upcoming Easter series “The Big Story”. The premise was that when you think of a story, it has a beginning, middle, and end. Stories always have framework, because it helps us make some sense out of what is going on. So their Easter series is tying in the The Big Story (from creation to the end of time) to our every day lives. Being able to see The Big Story will help people better understand how they fit in, and what their purpose is.

Props to Jim and his team with coming up with the idea! Thanks for letting me be apart of your vision!

Here is the sermon series artwork and bump that Chris Johns Media created for them.

Announcements

There’s always a lot of debate among church creative staff of what to do with announcements. Live announcements? Video announcements? Beginning of the service? End of service? There’s a million different ways to tackle this issue. I would say that not one is more right than the other, each congregation is different. We typically do a “major” announcement at the end of the service, where we spend at least 2-3 minutes talking/watching a video about the announcement. Occasionally, we have to group a couple of items into one “major” announcement. A good example is the upcoming Easter weekend. There’s a lot going on, so we want to make sure that our people see what all is going on. So this is just an example of a few of those announcements wrapped into one.

Dori and Mike

We were recently given the privilege to film the wedding of Dori and Mike. We absolutely had a blast. Dori and Mike were genuine as could be. The ceremony was great, the food was fantastic, the music was a blast, and most importantly everyone had a fun time enjoying the marriage of Dori and Mike. Here’s the highlight feature we put together for them. Thanks for letting us be a part of your special day!

In The Trenches Sermon Series Bump

Through the month of March, we are in a series called “In The Trenches”. It’s a sermon series about prayer, spiritual warfare, etc. Obviously, as you’ll see below, we went with the military theme; hence, “In the Trenches”. So without delay, here’s the final Bump that we ended up with, and then I’ll show you what we did to make this bump. Check it out:
[div]
[div] Here’s the process we went through to get the look we wanted.
Step one: filming boots running through the mudpit.
[div]
[div] Step two: Key the blue screen out
[div]
[div] Step three: Add the clouds
[div]
[div] Step four: Add some nice dirt textures
[div]
[div] Step five: Color treatment
[div]
[div] Step six: Add rain and dirt splashes
[div]
[div] And presto! Ten hours later plus hours of rendering! We have a beautiful bump for the sermon series. Just FYI, the color treatments and everything was based upon the sermon graphic, they weren’t random choices. This is best for the series in that all the printed pieces they see are matched to the videos that they see.
[div] We had a lot of fun making this video. We had to find a good army surplus store near by. In Fort Worth, we found a killer store called Omaha’s.

[div]
[div] We got some boots and a helmet for the last drop. We had a blast playing in the mud, as you’ll see below. You’ll also see that we recorded the audio of the footsteps splashing in the mud. It really helped to add that extra special sauce to the piece.
